A Michigan doctor admitted to billing Medicare for patients he didn’t even see—including one who was dead—as part of a $2.56 million Medicare fraud scheme.
On May 20, Thomas Mays pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health-care fraud in connection with a six-year home health recruitment scheme that allegedly bribed patients with drugs in order to sign them up for unnecessary home health services. Mays, who lives in a suburb of Detroit, faces up to 10 years in prison.
