Medicare’s Coordinated Care Effort Sees Modest Growth for 2022

The groups of doctors, hospitals, and clinicians that provide coordinated care through traditional Medicare will serve more than 11 million beneficiaries in 2022, up 324,000, or 3% from last year, the Biden administration announced Wednesday.

These accountable care organizations, or ACOs, are part of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, which is Medicare’s national ACO program and the leading value-based care initiative of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Sixty-six new ACOs joined the shared savings program this year, and 140 existing ACOs renewed their participation, the CMS said. In all, 483 ACOs are now in that program, ...
