Medicare Proposes Modest Pay Bump for Inpatient Rehab Facilities

Inpatient rehabilitation facilities would see a 2.8% increase in Medicare payments under a proposed rule issued Wednesday by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The proposed increase for the 2025 fiscal year is based on the proposed inpatient rehabilitation facility market basket update of 3.2%, minus a proposed 0.4 percentage point productivity adjustment.

It would lead to an estimated $255 million in increased payments for fiscal 2025.

The proposed rule (RIN 0938-AV31) seeks to update the quality reporting program for the facilities by adding four assessment items, modifying one item, and removing another.
