Medicare Pitches $3.3 Billion Payment Hike for Hospitals in 2024

Acute-care hospitals would see a 2.8% pay increase, or an extra $3.3 billion, in Medicare reimbursements in fiscal year 2024 under a proposed rule released Monday by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Long-term care hospitals would receive an extra 2.9%, but total payments would decline by 0.9% or $24 million, mainly because of a projected decline in high-cost outlier payments in FY 2024 compared to FY 2023.

The proposed rule (RIN: 0938-AV08) is scheduled to be published May 1 in the Federal Register.
