Medicare plans to partner with companies using artificial intelligence and other technologies to experiment with ways to expedite and expand the program’s process for preapproving care.
The model, announced Friday, plans to test-run technology-enhanced prior authorization with private payors for two three-year agreement periods in fee-for-service Medicare. Participants in the trial will include companies with expertise managing the prior authorization process for private insurers.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services asked companies interested in participating to submit applications by July 25, with a goal of launching the model in January 2026.
