Physician practices will be able to ditch fee-for-service payment structures through two sets of payment models introduced by the Trump administration April 22.
The new value-based care models for small and large primary care practices are designed to create incentives for keeping Medicare patients healthy rather than paying for procedures.
The two models with five built-in payment track options will be available in 2020 and are expected to attract a quarter or more of traditional Medicare beneficiaries and providers, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in an April 22 announcement at the American Medical Association.
