Medical Assistant Banned From Federal Programs for Decade

A rare government false claims action against a medical assistant led to a 10-year exclusion from federal health-care programs, in what one attorney called an “especially egregious” case.

Robert Gennaro, a medical assistant who worked for pain clinics in Georgia and Kentucky, agreed to the exclusion to reach an out-of-court settlement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. The allegations were an extension of a previously settled case against Robert Windsor, the doctor who owned the pain clinics and employed Gennaro.
