Medicaid Work Requirement Approvals Leave Judges Skeptical

A federal appeals court seemed skeptical of the Trump administration’s claim that it acted lawfully when it approved plans in Kentucky and Arkansas to make people work, look for work, volunteer, or go to school to qualify for Medicaid.

Judge Harry Edwards of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said a district court was convincing in its decision to toss out the approvals because the administration had failed to address that people would lose coverage.

“You are failing to address the critical statutory objective, which is coverage,” he said.
