Medicaid Explains Hospital Limits on Payments for Treating Poor

The Biden administration introduced a proposal Wednesday that would address the hospital-specific limit on Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments.

The proposed rule (RIN: 0938-AV00) would spell out how the hospital-specific limit would be calculated. The rule also would clarify specific aspects of the DSH program to increase administrative efficiency.

Federal law requires that state Medicaid programs make the payments to hospitals that serve a large number of Medicaid and uninsured individuals.
