Medicaid Divvies Up $48 Million in Opioid Money to 14 States

States hardest hit by the opioid epidemic—particularly in the Midwest—will divvy up $48.5 million in federal money to improve substance abuse treatment.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced on Sept. 18 that 14 states and the District of Colombia will receive planning grants to to improve staffing; reimbursement and communication for providers; and the number of treatments available in their substance abuse treatment programs.

Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia will launch 18-month blueprints for their own pilot projects.
