Massachusetts will receive and stockpile 15,000 doses of the abortion pill mifepristone to ensure people can access it for at least a year following a Texas judge’s decision to suspend FDA approval of the drug.
State governor Maura Healey directed the University of Massachusetts Amherst last week to purchase the doses, which could arrive as soon as this week, she said at a press conference Monday.
“Abortion will remain safe, legal, and accessible here in Massachusetts,” Healey said, gathered alongside state lawmakers and reproductive rights leaders on the steps of the State House.
