Massachusetts Medicaid Head to Lead Federal Low-Income Program

Massachusetts Medicaid Director Daniel Tsai will join the Biden administration as deputy administrator of the CMS and director of the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, the agency announced Monday.

In this position, Tsai will oversee the administration’s low-income health programs—Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The administration is expected to encourage states to experiment with those programs to address social factors that affect peoples’ health.

The appointment comes about a month after Chiquita Brooks-LaSure was confirmed and sworn in as head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The administration continues to fill out its team of ...
