Massachusetts Doctor Admits Fabricating Data on Pain Drugs in Research Journals

BOSTON—A prominent Massachusetts anesthesiologist, accused by medical journals of massive research fraud, agreed Jan. 14 to plead guilty in federal court to one count of health care fraud (United States v. Reuben).

Scott Reuben, the former chief of acute pain at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, admitted that he totally fabricated the results of research on pain management he purportedly performed for Pfizer Inc., and sent for publication to the journal, Anesthesia & Analgesia.
