Louisiana Doctors’ Medicare Fraud Convictions Upheld on Appeal

Four doctors and an administrative employee who worked for a Louisiana home health agency on Wednesday lost their Fifth Circuit appeal seeking to overturn their convictions in connection with a $13.6 million Medicare fraud scheme.

The government presented sufficient evidence that the doctors convicted on fraud and conspiracy charges knowingly executed a scheme to fraudulently bill Medicare for medically unnecessary home health services on behalf of patients who weren’t homebound, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled.
