Louisiana AG Reaches Settlement With Drugmakers

HOUSTON—Five pharmaceutical companies have agreed to pay Louisiana $18.6 million to resolve allegations of misreporting drug price information and overcharging the state’s Medicaid program, Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell (R) announced Oct. 24.

Drug companies entering civil settlements are Bristol-Myers Squibb, Mylan Inc., Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche), Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, and Shionogi Inc. Caldwell claimed that fraudulent overpricing and marketing of prescription drugs has caused the Louisiana Medicaid program to “grossly overpay for various drug prescriptions.” The attorney general alleged the drug manufacturers provided false and inflated average wholesale prices for their individual drugs.
