Lawmakers Weigh Preempting State Food Chemical Disclosure Laws

Congressional leaders on Wednesday will discuss whether and how food manufacturers should publicize evidence proving that chemicals added to products without federal review are safe for human consumption.

It’s an issue that has received little attention on Capitol Hill so far, but two bills with conflicting answers to that question are among dozens of measures addressing food regulation up for debate at a House Energy and Commerce Committee health subcommittee hearing.
