A pair of House lawmakers are pushing to bar public officials from accepting tips for their work, a reaction to a Supreme Court ruling last year that limited the scope of an anti-corruption law.
A bipartisan bill sponsored by Reps. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) and co-sponsored by Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.), to be introduced Friday, would restrict state, local, and tribal officials from accepting gratuities for official acts they’ve performed. The legislation comes one year after the Supreme Court overturned the conviction of an Indiana mayor who received $13,000 from a trucking company after it received city contracts.
