Lawmakers Mull Superfund Changes But Worry About EPA Staff Cuts

Senators on both sides of the aisle agreed on Wednesday that the Superfund cleanup process takes too long and needs to be fixed.

Lawmaker attention on the issue comes as EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has identified the cleanup of hazardous sites as one of his five most important goals. Since being confirmed in January, Zeldin made visits to Superfund sites in Missouri, New Jersey, and Colorado, promising to remediate lands that have remained contaminated for many years after the agency identified them as high priority sites.
