Labs Get 60-Day Reporting Reprieve From Medicare

Clinical labs won’t face civil monetary penalties for missing a data reporting deadline, thanks to a 60-day reprieve issued by Medicare.

Data submissions were originally due March 31, but the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said it would exercise enforcement discretion until May 30. Labs are required to report private payer payment rates and the volume of lab tests they conduct.

The delay was welcomed by laboratory companies, as this is the first time they’ve had to collect and report this type of information and many of them may not have the infrastructure in place to capture the data, ...
