Labor Department Is ‘Open’ to More Mental Health Parity Guidance

The Labor Department may issue more guidance on how health plans can meet requirements that they cover mental health care to the same extent as other services, an agency official said.

“There are conversations that we’re having on an ongoing basis with people who want more guidance,” Ali Khawar, the DOL’s acting assistant secretary in charge of the Employee Benefits Security Administration, said at a conference of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
