Kentucky Decriminalizes Medical Marijuana With Preemptive Pardon

Kentucky police and prosecutors must look the other way for Kentuckians in possession of medical marijuana starting next year, Gov. Andy Beshear (D) ordered Tuesday.

Patients suffering from a wide range of 21 categories of diseases from cancer to glaucoma are preemptively pardoned for possessions up to eight ounces—the state’s limit for felony possession—Beshear said in his executive order.

The order, which takes effect Jan. 1, could be a boon to health-care providers in neighboring states such as Ohio. There are no medical marijuana dispensaries in Kentucky, and the order requires a receipt for the drugs in a state ...
