Issa Seeks to Immunize Whistle-Blower In Probe of FTC Data Security Efforts

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will likely vote on whether to grant immunity to a whistle-blower willing to testify in the future on questions related to data security enforcement efforts by the Federal Trade Commission, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the panel’s chairman, said.

Issa revealed plans for the vote at a July 24 hearing titled “The Federal Trade Commission and Its Section 5 Authority: Prosecutor, Judge, and Jury.” The witness list included Michael Daugherty, chief executive officer of LabMD, Inc., which is in the midst of an administrative trial at the FTC involving alleged data security violations.
