Iowa’s decision to renew contracts for Amerigroup Iowa Inc. and United Healthcare Plan of the River Valley to manage the state’s Medicaid program could be invalidated by the upcoming election.
The Iowa Department of Human Services announced Aug. 24 it signed contracts with the two managed care organizations to help operate the state’s $5.25 billion Medicaid program for 2019, despite criticism from Democrats that the companies are unnecessarily delaying payments to providers and denying services to vulnerable patients.
