Insurers Must Cover HIV-Prevention Drug at No Cost, Agencies Say

More people should have an easier time accessing a crucial HIV-prevention medication under federal guidance issued Monday that clarifies that most private health plans must provide pre-exposure prophylaxis, or “PrEP,” without cost-sharing in order to help prevent new infections.

People who don’t have HIV take PrEP to reduce the chances of getting infected if they’re exposed to the virus. PrEP can stop the spread of HIV infection throughout the body.
