Insurance Newbie Oscar Takes on Florida Blue in Antitrust Row

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc. is trying to block competition on the state’s health insurance exchange, newbie insurer Oscar Health says.

Oscar Insurance Company of Florida is accusing Florida Blue of using its monopoly power to thwart the new entrant’s attempts to sell individual health plans on Florida’s Affordable Care Act exchange. Oscar sued Florida Blue in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida Nov. 13.

Florida Blue’s actions violate federal antitrust laws, Oscar says. Oscar was co-founded in 2012 by Josh Kushner and Mario Schlosser.
