Inpatient Hospital Payments Would Rise 0.8 Percent Under CMS Proposed Rule

Medicare payments to hospitals under the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) would increase 0.8 percent in fiscal year 2014 under a proposed rule released April 26 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The proposed rule will be published in the Federal Register May 10. Comments are due June 25 and a final rule is due by Aug. 1, CMS said.

The proposed payment increase would apply for inpatient stays in general acute care hospitals paid under the IPPS that successfully participate in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program. Those that do not successfully participate in the IQR ...
