Indiana’s anti-abortion aid-or-assist statute violates the rights of doctors and others insofar as it prevents them from sharing truthful information that will help minors get legal out-of-state abortions without their parents’ consent, a federal court said.
The provision’s enforcement has been temporarily blocked since 2017, when the US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana said that Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky Inc. was likely to win on its claim that the law violates the First Amendment. On Wednesday, the court granted the affiliate summary judgment and made the injunction permanent.
