Humana to Trim Medicare Rolls, Aims to Raise Quality Scores (1)

Humana Inc. it will cut membership in its Medicare Advantage plans, its biggest business, while spending to improve government quality ratings that have hurt revenue from the program.

Humana depends more than other insurers on funds from Medicare Advantage, private versions of the US health program for older and disabled people. The company said in a statement that it will spend “a few hundred million” to improve the business, with the goal of raising the ratings, called stars, that affect future payments.

Membership in individual Medicare Advantage is expected to shrink by about 550,000 this year, Humana said. ...
