The same day the Senate approved the governor’s plan to expand Medicaid in Utah, the Utah House Speaker said he would prevent a vote on the bill (S.B. 164) in its current form.
House Speaker Greg Hughes (R) said Feb. 25 that Gov. Gary R. Herbert (R)’s Healthy Utah plan is “too costly, too unpredictable and too inflexible” to earn the support of Republicans in the House. Earlier in the day the Senate approved the bill 17-11 on third reading.
