House Passes Bill to Block Stop-Loss Insurance Regs

The federal government would be unable to regulate stop-loss insurance as traditional health insurance under a bill (H.R. 1304) passed by the House April 5.

The House passed 400-16 a bill that would codify current practice by excluding stop-loss insurance from the definition of health insurance under federal rules. The bill was first proposed to head off concerns by the insurance industry that federal regulators during the administration of President Barack Obama wanted more say in how stop-loss insurance is designed.
