House Passes Bill to Avert Medicare Cuts Triggered By Stimulus

The U.S. House passes legislation that would avert the need for $36 billion in cuts to Medicare next year triggered under a “pay-as-you-go” law because there were no spending offsets in the $1.9 trillion stimulus bill.

  • Vote is 246-175
  • NOTE: Democrats said they supported waiving the requirement for sequestration after the Republican 2017 tax cuts, and called on Republicans to do the same this time; 60 votes will be needed in the Senate to advance the bill
  • 29 Republicans joined Democrats in passing the bill
