July 31, 2020, 12:47 PM UTC

House Oversight Committee report says the White House overpaid by as much as $500m for a ventilator contract with Philips.

  • Report says the White House didn’t build on an existing Obama-era contract with the company
    • New deal was negotiated by Peter Navarro’s office, formalized by Adam Boehler, and then handed to HHS contract officer to do proper documentation, report says
  • Philips recommended the administration buy a model of ventilators with “more clinician-friendly screens,” but the committee found that the screens were identical to a cheaper model purchased by the Obama administration
