Hospital Sued Over Patient Data Concerns From Website Trackers

A class of patients of an Illinois hospital allege the clinic’s website set up tracking software that unlawfully disclosed patients’ private health information.

The class action complaint filed Oct. 4 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois alleges that southern Illinois-based Deaconess Illinois Union County Hospital willingly installed tracking software from companies like Meta Platforms Inc., Google LLC, Microsoft Corp., and others on its website, allowing the hospital to “market their services and bolster their profits” in violation of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which prevents health-care providers from disclosing patients’ ...
