Hospital Chain on Hook for Attorney Fees After Settlement of FCA Litigation

One of the nation’s largest operators of acute-care hospitals will have to pay attorneys’ fees to six whistle-blowers who were part of a $97.3 million July 2014 settlement involving allegations of unnecessary hospital admissions, following an Aug. 6 federal district court decision (United States ex rel. Doghramji v. Cmty. Health Sys., Inc., 2015 BL 253282, M.D. Tenn., 3:11-cv-00442, 8/6/15).

The court did not specify the amount of attorneys’ fees and asked the parties for a briefing on suggested amounts.
