Hospice Provider to Pay $2M to Settle N.J. Whistle-Blower Case

A for-profit provider will pay $2 million to settle a whistle-blower complaint that it provided hospice services to patients who didn’t qualify for them and charged Medicare for unneeded care (United States ex rel. Doe v. Compassionate Care Hospice, D.N.J., 10-cv-3484, settlement 7/6/17).

Compassionate Care of Gwynedd Inc., a subsidiary of Compassionate Care Hospice Group Inc. that runs a facility in Bensalem, Pa., settled the False Claims Act case in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey after the U.S. joined in a whistle-blower complaint filed in 2010.
