The owner and operator of three Miami home-health agencies has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a scheme to fraudulently bill Medicare and agreed to forfeit $9 million in illegal proceeds, according to federal prosecutors (United States v. Fernandezplea agreement).
Magistrate Judge Chris M. McAliley heard the guilty plea Nov. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The defendant, Ernesto Fernandez, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health-care fraud, as part of a negotiated plea agreement.
