Hirshfeld Takes Up PTO Chief Duties as Biden Enters White House

Patent and Trademark Office Commissioner Drew Hirshfeld will fill the duties of the director as the Biden administration takes the White House, according to an email sent to staff Wednesday.

The announcement comes a day after Andrei Iancu announced he was leaving the role of PTO director, to which he was appointed by former President Donald Trump.

“Upon a vacancy of the Director and Deputy Director of the USPTO, the Commissioner for Patents performs the functions and duties of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and USPTO Director,” Hirshfeld wrote in the email, which was obtained by Bloomberg ...
