High-Quality MA Plans More Apt to Reap Bonus Payments Under Reform, Report Finds

Medicare Advantage plans in several states given high quality ratings by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will be more apt to receive bonus payments under the new health care reform law and beneficiaries in some states will have few options for choosing a highly rated plan, according to a policy brief by the Kaiser Family Foundation released Sept. 9.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, Pub. L. No. 111-148) requires CMS to adopt a star rating system in 2012 to reward highly rated plans with higher payments, said the brief, ...
