People with disabilities are getting updated protections against discrimination in health care under a Biden administration rule unveiled Wednesday.
Under the final rule (RIN 0945-AA15), medical treatment decisions about a disabled person can’t be made based on stereotypes or the belief that they are less valuable than someone without a disability. Likewise, when weighing life extension, providers can’t use value assessment methods where a lower value is placed on someone who has a disability.
