The Biden administration on Friday issued a long-awaited proposed rule that would restrict the sale and availability of “short-term limited-duration insurance” plans, which critics say are a cheaper, but lower-quality offering that diminishes the consumer protections in the Affordable Care Act.
The proposal (RIN: 1210-AC12) would amend the definition of STLD insurance to “ensure this type of coverage does not undermine the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for people with pre-existing conditions, the Health Insurance Exchanges, or the individual, small group, or large group markets for health insurance in the United States,” the administration said previously.
