HHS Tackles Errant Cancellations of Kids’ Medicaid Coverage

The Biden administration is requiring states to fix issues that could be incorrectly terminating Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program coverage for eligible children.

In a letter sent to state health officials Wednesday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said it has identified problems in multiple states where eligibility verification systems are incorrectly processing Medicaid renewals at the family level rather than the individual level. The problem resulted in eligible children losing coverage because their parents no longer qualify.
