The Department of Health and Human Services has finalized a health data, technology, and interoperability rule, according to the agency Wednesday.

The Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates, Algorithm Transparency, and Information Sharing (HTI-1) rule aims to further patient access, interoperability, and standards, said the agency.

It establishes transparency requirements for artificial intelligence as well as other predictive algorithms that are a part of certified health IT. The rule also makes revisions to information blocking definitions and exceptions in order to increase information sharing, HHS said.
