A Trump-era rule that prohibited federally funded doctors from referring pregnant patients to facilities that provide abortions would be reversed under a proposal unveiled by the Department of Health and Human Services Wednesday.
The proposal would also remove requirements for “strict physical and financial separation” between clinics that receive federal funds and facilities that provide abortion services.
The HHS said the Trump rule, promulgated under Title X of the Public Health Service Act, “undermined the public health of the population the program is meant to serve.”
