HHS Moves to Open Obamacare Subsidies, Medicaid to DACA Migrants (1)

Some undocumented immigrants who arrived in the US as children could receive Medicaid or subsidized Obamacare coverage under a proposal announced Monday by the Biden administration.

The proposed rule (RIN: 0938-AV23) from the Department of Health and Human Services would allow individuals who are part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) to establish a “lawful presence” in the US. The new language opens up the possibility for nearly 600,000 undocumented individuals to receive insurance coverage at little to no cost if their income is low enough to qualify.
