Gender affirming care guidance is being withdrawn by the US Department of Health and Human Services in effort to support executive actions from President Donald Trump.
The announcement Thursday from the HHS Office for Civil Rights marks a major shift for the division. Under former President Joe Biden, the OCR issued rules aimed at bolstering protections for transgender people and abortion rights.
The OCR said Thursday that the former administration “intended to interpret civil rights and health information privacy authorities to protect the chemical and surgical mutilation of children” and called it gender-affirming care.
