HHS Barred From Ending Pediatric Group’s Funding for Now (2)

The US Health and Human Services Department has been temporarily halted from ending all federal funding for the nation’s leading professional group for pediatric medicine after a DC federal judge said its termination of the grants likely was in retaliation for the group’s speech.

Senior Judge Beryl A. Howell on Sunday granted the American Academy of Pediatrics’ request for a preliminary injunction, saying the agency’s actions likely violated its First Amendment free-speech rights because they appeared to be based on the group’s advocacy for childhood vaccinations and support of gender-affirming care when medically indicated.
