Health Ministry Affiliate Aliera’s Bankruptcy to Stay in Delaware

The Aliera Companies Inc., the bankrupt operator of health-care cost-sharing ministries, will have its Chapter 11 case heard in Delaware after failing to get proceedings moved to Georgia.

Aliera’s case is more appropriately heard in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware because of the company’s ties to Sharity Ministries Inc., a health-care ministry that also filed for bankruptcy there, Judge John T. Dorsey said at a hearing Friday.

Dorsey approved Sharity’s liquidation plan in December.

Administering the case in Georgia would be less economical and could lead to inconsistent rulings by two bankruptcy judges, Dorsey said.
