Health Insurers Step Up Lobbying to Shape Surprise Bills Debate

The health insurance industry spent more on its efforts to influence Washington in the first three months of 2020 than in any quarter in recent years, as lobbying expenditures by the rest of the health-care sector remained relativity steady.

America’s Health Insurance Plans, which represents the bulk of U.S. health insurers, spent $3.6 million in the first quarter of this year on lobbying, a 28.5% increase over the $2.8 million the group spent in the same months in 2019, federal lobbying disclosure forms show.
