Halted Nursing Home Inspections Draw Ire of Lawmakers, Attorneys

A federal suspension of most nursing home inspections is stirring fears that the policy change could be fueling Covid-19 infections and deaths.

Not to Distract: The CMS halted on-site, non-emergency inspections in March to keep nursing homes’ focus on controlling coronavirus infections. The agency said its directive is based on CDC recommendations and infection hot spot data, and it’s urging facilities to assess themselves for compliance with government guidelines.
