Gossip Allegation May Spell Trouble for Meijer Pharmacy

An Indiana retail pharmacy may be liable for failing to stop a pharmacist from gossiping about customers’ prescription information (Mataranglo v. Meijer Stores LP, 2017 BL 19344, Ind. Ct. App., Court of Appeals Case No. 71A03-1604-CT-849, 1/24/17).

The Indiana Court of Appeals Jan. 24 reversed pretrial judgment for Meijer Stores LP on Jessica Mataranglo’s claim the pharmacy owed her damages for negligently training, supervising and retaining pharmacist Shannon Fuentes-LaCross. LaCross allegedy disclosed Mataranglo’s prescription information to a former mutual boyfriend, the complaint said.
